Judith Slaying Holofernes (Artemisia Gentileschi)

The paint it’s supposed to be a representation of a part of the Old Testament of the bible, story of a Jewish woman (Judith) who infiltrates an enemy camp to slay the Assyrian leader, Holofernes. Behind that part of the meaning of the paint, in that time, shortly before this painting was created, the artist Artemisia was raped by her teacher and then humiliated in court for being a “loose woman”, so probably that is the first reason that motivated her to paint this kind of picture, showing that she was angry, and maybe the thirsty of revenge.  Is not a kind of picture that you would want to expose in the wall or your house, it has a strong sense of violence, but it’s a very good paint that easily transmits you the feeling of the author.
