"The Debutante" (1989) section 7

7.

"Only if you promise to kill her before tearing off her face. It'll hurt too much otherwise."

"All right. It's all the same to me."

Not without a certain amount of nervousness I rang for Mary, my maid. I certainly wouldn’t have done it if I didn't hate having to go to a ball so much. When Mary came in I turned to the wall so as not to see. I must admit it didn’t take long. A brief cry, and it was over. While the hyena was eating, I looked out the window. A few minutes later she said, "I can't eat any more. Her two feet are left over still, but if you have a little bag, I'll eat them later in the day."

- ANALYSIS

This section of the story is about transformations, the hyena needs to kill so she can use the maid's face for the ball, it is fantastic how they talk about it as if it was something simple, but the hyena is taking a life for reasons of hunger and desire, even though the girl doesn't want to look, she's also guilty because she was the one who called the maid and "handed her in" to the hyena. This are magical events, the hyena talking as a human, and a pretty odd girl who kills in order to avoid society. It is an awkward story, but algo meaningful where the society is the principle theme, where you will make anything to fit in, or otherwise anything to avoid them.
